Welcome,
I just want to start off to say that I am not selling an ebook, I'm not going
to ask for money. I have spent 2.5 years trying to figure out how to get traffic
to my websites and how to make money on the internet. Everywhere I look I see
how to get millions of visitors and how to get rich. I have purchased many ebooks,
software and tried many programs to reach this goal. I have only found a handfull
techniques that actually work. I am not a writer so I am going to just tell you
what to do. If you are serious about starting your own internet business then
read on, otherwise you might as well stop reading. If you are going to start any
business you need to be willing to spend money on equipment, inventory and or
tools. If you started a book store you would need to purchase books, shelves,
supplies, cash register and you would need to pay for advertising. On the internet
you are doing the exact samething. You will be spending money to get your business
off the ground. Now don't get me wrong there plenty of free tools we can use that
are on the internet. You are probably asking why did I start doing this. I just can't stand everyone pushing the all of this crap. You will hear things like adsense is dead, adsense is back, Internet 2.0, buy this new tool, buy that new tool. Before you know it you have purchased all these tools and still you don't have visitors to your website and you are not making money. Read on if you are serious...
I.Domain
Name
I buy all my domain names from godaddy. The reason is that I can change all name servers all at once and the contol panel is easy to use and very flexible.
II.
Host Your Domain
When
looking for a host you should make sure they support the following. They should
have unlimited domains, unlimited MySQL databases, PHP 4.1 or higher and use cpanel.
Cpanel is the main controll panel you will use to setup your website to upload
files configure MySql Database etc... They shouldn't be blocking traffic from
or into their site. I have used hostgator and many others and I have found that
hostgators support is second to none.
III.
Search Engines
Don't pay anyone to submit your site to search engines.
Don't bother submitting you website to the search engines. Here is a brief explaination on how it all works. when a link points to your site form another site spider (robots) follow the link to your site. Once the spider (robot) gets to your site the search engine will index your site. So it is very important to get links that point to your site. Each site has something called a page rank. Google is the only search engine that does this and displays it on their google toolbar. You can check your page rank here if you like. Check page rank
All sites start out as a page rank 0 and they work their way up to a 10. Moving up in page rank is not something that just happens in a short period of time, more on page rank a little later. So you might have guessed that page rank is important. So if you get a link from a high page rank this means that this site recieves much more traffic and the spiders visit the site much more often to check for new content. If they find your link they will follow it to your website and index your site.
IV.
Optimize your WebPages
I
have purchased many ebooks on this subject and software. The software that I found
to be one of the best is Webposition. This software will analyze your website
pages and compare them to your competitors. It will let you know how to improve
your title, keywords, description and links to rank well on the search engines.
Webpositions will also let you know how you rank on the search engines compared
to your competitors for each keyword. It does take sometime getting use to because
there are so many features. You need to keep using the Webpositions each week
because your competitors are continually changing. This tool will let you know
what has changed so you can make adjustments. I don't want you to think that I
am pushing this on you but I have tried other products and this seems to work
the best. Before you purchase you can download the software free to try for 30
days. The important area of the webpage that I find is the title and description in the meta area. Make sure they are different for each page. Here take a look at this site.

V. Keywords
Keywords are very important. To Market your site you need to know what keyword to use. The tool I use is keyword elite. This tool is great it researches the keywords and helps with adsense and adword keyword marketing. This tool is a must. If you don't have the money to purchase this tool there is another tool I like it is called Good keywords. You can download this tool for free.

Traffic Traffic Traffic
How
do I get traffic to my website? This is the question that everyone is asking.
You will see many advertisements telling you that you can get 10,000 visitors
to your site by paying $60. Let me ask you a question, if you owned a store front
and someone came to your business and was selling you 10,000 customers for $60
would you believe them? No probably not, so why believe them now. I have spent alot of money and the following techniques don't work, banner ads, people who spend money sending traffic to your site and ffa. So lets explore what does work. One of the best techniques that I use is article writing and article distribution. Why does it work?When you write an article it is an extension of your website, people read it and become intersted in what you have to say. It they want to know more they will click on the link that is associated with the article. Ahhh. The link that is on your article. Submitting articles using tools like article post robot and isnare allow your articles to be distributed to thousands of publishers. So lets thinks about this for a minute, if I distribute may articles to thousands of publishers how many one way links will I receive and how many people will read my article and click on my link to come to my site. Now I am not saying that 1 article is going to do this you will need to write many article to accomplish this. I know you hate to write. Well I found a great tools that works really well. Its called Instant Article Wizard Pro. I am not saying go out and buy it. If you can write then this tool is not for you, but if you are like me and hate to write you will need this. I started out hiring a ghost writer and she was only charging me $12 per article, it became way to expenseive and IAWpro was a great alternative. Hmmmm, what else do you need to drive traffic, ahhh the most important thing links. Many Many Links pointing to your site. Everything I am talking about is how to get free traffic without paying for overture or adwords. Both allow you to pay for ads that will appear on the search engines. Take a look at google and on the right side you will see ads. These are paid ads and they pay google everytime someone clicks on the ad. Its a great way to get to the top of the search engines. If you have the money go for it. Overture is yahoo paid click system and Google has adwords. There are less expensive click systems, goclick and brainfox but these will not appear on google, yahoo or msn. There ads showup on webpages as ads.
Now the problem with the free method is that it take a while and people become very impatient and quit. Never give up. Keep going. Think of it this way. Lets say you received 100 visitors you only have 10,000,000 to go. If your website is at a page rank 0, set goal to get it to a certain page rank.
Links
All
you hear about is links, links, links. Yes you need to get links pointing back
to your website. But know one tells you how to do this. Here are 5 ways of getting
links back to your site.
- Linknetics is a great link program. You can join for free and it allows you to post links and reciprocal link exchange with others.
- Use submit eaze, this is a great tool for posting links on directories
- Write articles and submit them to article distribution system or purchase an article submission tool. I use them both. I use isnare and article post robot.
- Join forums and post your link if you can without looking like you are promoting it.
- Comment on blogs and post your link
Affiliate
Program
What
is an affiliate program? You hear everyone talking about it, become an affiliate,
but what does this mean. When you become an affiliate you are selling other people's
products for a commission. Lets say I am selling an ebook. I would go to clickbank.com
and sign up so I can choose from thousands of products to sell on my site. They
will give you a special link which you will copy and paste onto your website.
This can be a text link or a banner link, it doesn't really matter. If someone
clicks on the link and purchases that product you would receive a commission check
from clickbank. Some of the commissions are 50-60%. So if an item was selling
for $97.00 you would receive half of that amount. You don't have to worry about
shipping or credit cards etc, plus clickbank will keep track of your sales. If
you are selling something on your website you can start your own affiliate program
and let other people sell your merchandise.
Pay
Per Click
What
is ppc? PPC are the advertisement you see on the right handside of google, yahoo,
msn etc. They are usually called sponsor ads or sponsored results.You pay per
click. If no one clicks on your sponsor ads you do not pay. These are very powerful
because you can optimize them for a keyword. For example if I choose 'personalized
party favors' as my keyword I can have this show up on the first page everytime
someone types the keyword in. This is important. If there are lot of people bidding
on the keyword you might pay $2.00 to $5.00 per click. I try not to go over .25
cents. Here is a list of PPC companies . Note:
Miva and Search 123 tend to have the cheaper ppc than do
yahoo and google. Important, Miva and Search123 do not show up on yahoo and google.
They will show up on different search engine sites. Track
your Traffic
You
need to track your traffic on your site. This way you can see who is visiting
what pages customers are being visited and how long the visit is. I use a Free
counter service called statcounter. This site is free and it allows you to place
the code on each of you webpages. You can choose between visible counter and invisible
counters. The reporting is fantastic it shows you who is visiting, where they
are visiting from, what keyword or source brought them to your site. This is great
statistical information if you are tracking campaigns.
VII.
Autoresponders
What
are autoresponders. Do you know all the boxes on website that ask you for your
name and email address. This is how other webmasters capture customer information.
The autoresponder sends out premade sales letters. For example: If you signed
up for my secret news letter my autoresponder will have 3-7 letter all ready written
by me waiting for someone to fill in the information. Once the information is
filled in, the autoresponder sends the first letter. Now I can have the autoresponder
wait 2 days to send another letter or I can pick any time frame. The autoresponder
will send out all the letters for you without doing anything. You do not need
to keep track because it is all automatic, you will look at the stats to see which
letters have been sent and who is getting what. You can think of this as your
sales force. The autoresponder is always ready to answer at anytime of the day.
VIII.
When will I see Results?
You
should see results within 4 to 8 months, it all depends on how much time, money
you want to put into doing all of these steps. I know you want things to happen
quickly and it would seem it should, after all it is the internet. I have found
that nothing moves as quickly as you would like, search engines are on their own
schedule and they will get to a new sites when they get to them. Sure there are
ways to speed up the process that I have discussed but you will not see instantaneous
results. You will need alot of patience. I will update this site often so please
check back for more information. Remember don't give up. Successful people do
what unsuccessful people are not willing to do.
IX.
Real Time Case Study
Ok I decided to create a real time case study of a site that I just started and I will use the techniques I explained above. The site name is tipsquad, it is an advice site or otherwise know as ask an expert . It is a site that allows individuals who have a great tips or advice to give via video. You create a video on how to do something. I will update this every couple of days so check back. We all know how important links are so if you upload a tip video you will be able to place a live link back to your site. If you just want to help I would appreciate any tip videos you have. I think this is a great way to learn how to do things.
